Cutting Duropal, Getalit or Fenix NTM compact laminate

Duropal, Getalit and Fenix NTM compact laminate worktops are very hardwearing and it is essential for a good job that good quality machinery, clean and sharp cutters are used to produce a professional finish that ultimately saves time and effort. Also ensure that the tool holder is clean, and the tool is placed well within it and it is securely in place to ensure that it does not oscillate when being used.

Cutting Duropal, Getalit and Fenix NTM compact worktops can be carried out using a portable hand-held circular saw or plunge saw with a TCT triple chip blade which must follow a guide rail or straight edge. Plunge in three stages of 4mm depth increments and then complete the cut.

Ensure that all measurements are checked repeatedly to avoid errors.

Ensure all worktops are adequately supported during all cutting processes.

Use suitable clamps to ensure there is no movement of the guide whilst cutting.

All joint edges and final finished ends must be skimmed using a hand router with a sharp blade. Allow for 2 - 3mm for final skim to size.

Ensure that cutting tools have achieved full speed before beginning cuts.

Achieving a sharp top edge and smooth joint faces is essential to obtaining a discreet joint.

Look carefully at the quality of the fit.

If any chips or gaps can be seen repeat the trimming process.

Before finally bonding the joint make sure it is clean to achieve a good finish.

Scribing

After scribing the worktop edge to the wall with a circular saw or jigsaw, ensure that the top and bottom edges are sanded to remove any chipping that may have occurred whilst cutting.

· Mark the required cut line on the worktop with a pencil. It is best to use a scribing tool.

· If the line is straight using a circular saw cut in the same manner as you would cut to length, except the cut line will be angled.

· Please note, you may have a margin for error dependent on the upstands or tiling used above the worktop.

· If a straight cut cannot be achieved the cut will have to be made with a jigsaw and a metal cutting blade.

· It is important that the top and bottom edges are sanded with 240 grit sandpaper to remove any chipping.

It is essential that you carry out a dry fit prior to install when all the parts have been prepared.
