Finishing your Formica birch plywood kitchen worktops.

  • This is not a difficult process. You, (or your carpenter) would need to get a hard sanding block, wrap some aluminium oxide paper around it (sandpaper but much better and longer lasting) just to give the birch plywood edge a final finish. They are cut square on a very expensive sawbed but will just need a few minutes of very light sanding to finish them off. Then, using Osmo TopOil, this can be applied quickly and easily to waterproof it and deepen the colour tone. Carpenters and kitchen fitters sometimes might prefer to use their favourite oil as they are more used to it. Some customers prefer not to have the true 90° corner angle on the worktop edges which can be perceived as being a little sharp. Using a 240 volt laminate trimming tool, or even a sanding block and aluminium oxide paper again, it is very easy to soften the edge detail by a few degrees. This is known as a micro-bevel.  Again, this is a very quick and easy job.
